Secondary Academic Readiness
Helping your child manage the demands of secondary school with confidence and structure.
Secondary school asks a lot more of children — more subjects, more homework, more independence, and less hand-holding. For children who already find learning challenging, that jump can be overwhelming. They fall behind, lose confidence, and start avoiding work rather than asking for help.
This programme is designed for children in Key Stages 3 and 4 who are struggling to keep up. We work on the academic skills they need — English and maths — alongside the practical skills that secondary school assumes they already have, like organising their work, managing homework, and breaking down bigger tasks into steps they can actually follow.
Sessions are delivered in 4-week blocks within small groups and cost £120 per block. To get started, book an initial assessment and we’ll help you find the right fit for your child.
What We Focus On
- Core English and maths — reinforcing the fundamentals so your child can access what’s being taught in class rather than falling further behind
- Breaking down tasks — helping your child approach complex homework and assignments step by step instead of shutting down when it feels like too much
- Organisation and planning — practical support with structuring their workload, keeping track of deadlines, and knowing where to start
- Study skills — building the habits they need to revise, prepare for assessments, and work more independently
- Confidence in the classroom — helping your child feel capable enough to engage in lessons rather than sitting quietly and hoping not to be noticed
How This Works
Sessions run in small groups in a calm, structured setting. Each 4-week block has clear goals, and we review your child’s progress with you at the end. We focus on building your child’s confidence and practical skills together — there’s no point improving their maths if they still can’t organise their bag for the next day.
If your child has an EHCP with targets related to academic progress, independence, or executive function skills, we can align sessions to support those outcomes.
Who This Is For
This programme is for secondary school students who:
- Are falling behind in English, maths, or across multiple subjects
- Struggle with homework, organisation, or managing their workload
- Found the transition from primary to secondary school difficult and haven’t caught up
- Need structured support to build independence rather than relying on constant prompting
- Are capable but disengaged, and need the right environment to start progressing again
